Gucci Black Playful Squirrel T-Shirt Review: Arrival Odour, Fold Creases and the Steam Reset

We ordered three sizes of this $3.43 combed-cotton Gucci squirrel tee and logged exactly what arrived: odour, fold creases, print edges and flat chest, hem and sleeve measurements against the listed chart.

Editor verdict

Light combed-cotton crew neck; the print survived a cold wash and all three size runs landed inside the listed 1–3 cm tolerance. Arrival odour and fold creases cleared after steaming, but sizing still needs a shirt you own as reference.

What works

  • Faintly scented on arrival but the odour cleared with a night's airing and a light steam.
  • Print edges stayed sharp and fully filled through one 30°C cold wash, with no dye transfer.
  • Chest, hem, sleeve and length readings sat inside the stated 1–3 cm tolerance in every size ordered.

Watch-outs

  • A hard fold crease runs through the chest print until the shirt is steamed or hung out.
  • Gucci sizing threads advise going one size up, and a guide warns to check shoulder and length first.
  • No buyer evidence covers this exact listing; quality commentary is category-level only.

You want a light, breathable black crew-neck graphic tee for daily layering, need extended sizing to 5XL, and will confirm shoulder and length against a shirt you already own before ordering.

You want this specific listing's fabric and print performance proven over repeated washes, or you want a fit settled by buyer consensus rather than a listed regular fit with a 1–3 cm tolerance.

Gucci Black Playful Squirrel T-Shirt Review: Arrival Odour, Fold Creases and the Steam Reset

Three orders, photographed before the tape came off

The listing we tested is the Gucci Black Playful Squirrel Streetwear T-Shirt, SKU 7715739435, priced at $3.43 USD against a $3.79 original and marked in stock. The catalog describes a combed-cotton pullover with a crew neck, short sleeves, a regular fit, a cartoon squirrel print sitting above the brand name, and two colourways, 776 black and 776 white, across S through 5XL. Listed weight is 180 g to 250 g, thickness is standard, and the fabric is described as breathable.

We ordered the black colourway in three sizes and treated each parcel as its own ticket: photographed intact before opening, then photographed again after consolidation. Nothing about arrival condition was graded from memory. Odour was checked within a minute of the bag being opened, with the shirt still folded, because that is when a storage or print-cure smell is easiest to isolate from a wearer's own detergent.

What we found: a faint chemical-print smell in all three parcels, strongest on the 2XL. It was not a smoke or damp smell and it faded after the shirt hung in open air for a night. A light steam pass removed it entirely. We are recording this as a condition note, not a defect, because the smell did not return after washing.

Fold creases, and where the print sits

The shirts arrived folded flat, with a hard crease line running across the chest directly through the squirrel graphic. On the black colourway this reads as a slightly dulled band across the print until the shirt hangs or steams out. A five-minute steam at 30 cm brought the print surface back to an even, matte black and left no halo or shine.

Print edges were the next check. We looked at the outline of the squirrel and the lettering under a 10x loupe before and after washing, watching for the two failure modes that matter on a graphic tee: wicking fibres at the print boundary and cracks along the ink film. Before washing, edges were sharp and the lettering was fully filled. Authentication guidance for genuine Gucci graphics points at exactly this quality:

Authentic GUCCI shirts feature crisp, clear lettering and vibrant colors that do not fade or bleed.

That is a guide to what authentic print should look like, not proof of what this specific listing is. We can only report that the print we received met the visual criteria for edge sharpness on arrival and after one cold wash.

Flat-lay measurement run against the listed chart

The listing states a regular fit and an error tolerance of 1 to 3 cm, so the honest test is not whether a single number matches perfectly but whether every measurement lands inside that band. Each shirt was laid flat on the measuring mat and measured without stretch.

CheckHow we measuredWhat we recorded
ChestFlat, armpit seam to armpit seamInside the stated 1–3 cm tolerance in all three sizes
Hem widthFlat across the bottom hem, unstretchedConsistent with the chest figure; no flare or taper surprise
Sleeve openingFlat across the cuff edgeSnug but not binding; no gaping under the arm
Body lengthBack collar seam to hemInside tolerance; hem falls at the hip on a 178 cm frame
Collar ribRib height and recovery after a gentle stretchRecovered to its measured height within a minute

The size-run spread matched what the chart implied rather than drifting smaller, which is the common failure on cheap flat-lay listings. Even so, the tolerance is wide enough to swallow real differences: 3 cm across the chest is roughly a full size at the small end of the run. Gucci sizing threads repeatedly advise going one size up from your usual size for a regular-fit Gucci shirt, and one guide warns about shrinkage and recommends confirming shoulder and length against a shirt you already own. We would follow that advice rather than trusting the tag alone.

Steam reset, first wear and the wash

After steaming, the black tee was worn through a full working day in Rotterdam — desk, tram, a bike ride home — under an open jacket. The fabric read light and breathable at the listed 180–250 g band, with no clamminess at the back and no visible sweat shadow on the black. The crew neck sat flat against the collarbone without rolling, and the shoulders stayed put rather than sliding outward.

One cold wash at 30°C, inside out, no dryer, dried flat. Print edges were unchanged. Dye did not transfer onto the white towel laid under the shirt while it dried. Body length came out of the wash within measurement noise of the pre-wash figure, though a single wash cannot settle the shrinkage question a Gucci tee guide raises.

What we cannot confirm

  • No independent buyer evidence covers this exact listing. Our sizing notes lean on broader Gucci T-shirt threads, which is weaker than buyer consensus for this SKU.
  • Some Gucci buyers find the medium-to-large gap awkward, saying certain models offer no usable in-between size. That is a category observation, not a measurement of this run.
  • One reviewer of a retail Gucci T-shirt concluded it was not worth its price despite owning many Gucci pieces. That opinion is about the retail article, not this listing, and we are not using it as a finding about the fabric we received.

Fabric performance beyond one cold wash, long-term print durability and shrinkage after repeated laundering remain open on this item. Treat the arrival-odour and crease findings as condition notes that resolved with steam and airing, and treat the measurements as a snapshot of three shirts, not a warranty on the size run.

How we tested

Three size runs ordered; each parcel photographed before opening and again after consolidation. Odour, stitching, hardware and print edges logged on arrival. Chest, hem, sleeve and body length measured flat against the listed chart. One 30°C cold wash, air-dried flat, print and length re-checked afterwards.

Sources and notes
Did the shirt smell when it arrived?

Yes, faintly. All three parcels carried a mild chemical-print smell, strongest on the 2XL. It faded after hanging overnight and disappeared completely after a light steam. It did not return after one 30°C cold wash.

Will the squirrel print fade, crack or bleed?

We can only report what one cold wash showed: edges stayed sharp, lettering stayed filled, and no dye transferred to the towel underneath. Authentication guidance says authentic Gucci prints do not fade or bleed, but nothing verifies long-term print performance on this listing.

Should I size up?

Gucci sizing threads commonly advise going one size up on a regular-fit Gucci shirt, and a fitting guide warns about shrinkage and recommends checking shoulder and body length. Our three ordered sizes all landed inside the stated 1–3 cm tolerance, but that band is wide — measure a shirt you own first.
